Video Share: こどものなまえ (names of children)

The following video is a news clip about names of newly born children in Japan:

By the way, this video happens to have many new grammar items and kanji learned recently. A good material for review ;)

A name often contains stories and connections of the family as well as parents' expectations. Complicated meanings and sufficient combinations of kanji makes it more important (and difficult) to name a new baby with kanji.

Take myself as an example. 郭(guo グオ) is my family name. There are two kanji in my given name. 元(yuan ユアン) contains meanings related to "primary", "leading", "first", etc. And 博(bo ボ)is usually about "big", "intelligent", "broad", "general", etc. This name represents blessings and expectations from my parents, and I like it a lot, too.

Please tell me about stories behind your names as well if you are interested. ありがとうございます。
